David Pinales lives by the motto “Hate losing more than you love winning.” - Damon Barlow
His passion for fitness is seen in David’s contributions to Juan Diego Academy’s athletics program. As a freshman David ran and placed 5th in the 4x400m relay at the track & field state competition, hosted by Baylor University. Additionally, he was on the basketball team for two years until he injured his wrist. David’s favorite moments of the past four years are the class of 2020’s sophomore service day and the junior college trip.
Spending his summer as an intern for St. Paul Lutheran’s summer camp, David helped lead a group of about twenty children. He most enjoyed encouraging them to think and guiding them through activities. Leading a service project, David hosted a weekend-long trip to entertain the patients of Reynosa’s children hospital. He remembered the boredom of his own experience when he was there, and he wanted to bring joy to those who undergo that same experience.
David’s advice to the students of Juan Diego Academy is “Don’t stress about things that are out of your control.”
He would like to thank “my parents for supporting me, being there for me, and guiding me. I appreciate everything my family does for me; it does not go unnoticed. I don’t think I say thank you enough to them, but they are my heroes and show me what hard work and love looks like everyday.”
David will be attending the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley as a kinesiology major. He aims to transfer to the University of Texas - San Antonio and further his education by earning a doctorate in physical therapy.
