“The best way to pursue happiness is to help other people. Nothing else will make you happier.” - George Lucas
Edgar Soria Hernández attended Juan Diego Academy since his freshman year after moving back to the United States from Bogota, Colombia where he attended an IB International School. Throughout these past four years, Edgar has grown in his roles as a member of the JDA Community.
He has shown great interest in helping out during school-organized events, aiding in the Gala, Spring Festival, and school plays. He was part of the Mechanical Lions team, helping with the construction of the robot and joined the team who traveled to the semifinals during the robotics competition in Del Rio, Texas. He was also granted the honor of being part of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica his sophomore year.
During the summer of 2017, he took part in the Catholic Youth Renovation Project alongside a group of compassionate JDA students to restore a home and help this community in the valley have a better life. As a senior, he designed the 2019-2020 yearbook cover, after showing an improvement in his artistic talent and watercolor techniques. The original artwork is currently on display in the A Building in the foyer by the office.
In his free time, Edgar is committed to taking care of those in need, especially those who are most vulnerable and can’t be heard. He shows compassion and love for stray animals in his neighborhood. He feeds and creates shelters for those who don't have a loving home.
As an animal caregiver, he himself has adopted two stray kittens, after feeding and nursing them back to health.
Edgar believes in becoming the best version of yourself and that the effort you put into your work makes all the difference in the world, so his advice to the future JDA generations is “If you are going to do something, do it the best you can because there is no success without commitment”.
His whole life he’s had an interest in the artistic work that goes into animation and practical/visual effects, largely inspired by films from Pixar and science fiction movies, such as Toy Story and Star Wars. Edgar will attend South Texas College for his first two years with the intention of earning an associate’s degree in Visual Arts. He then plans to transfer to another school to pursue a career as a multimedia artist.
