Ever the showman, Marcela has shown an interest in the performing arts. Even before she became a part of Juan Diego Academy, she attended a theatrical performance in our gymnasium. She told Dr. Carroll then, she loved theater, and that has not changed. She has been a member of the cast in the three plays that Juan Diego Academy has performed during her high school education. She has won many awards for her performances in the plays in which she has been a member of the cast. In addition to theater, Marcela has been a member of our Liturgical Ensemble since she set foot on campus sharing her beautiful voice. Other clubs that Marcela has participated in include the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica and the Quiz Bowl, and the Robotics club. In addition to the clubs, Marcela enjoyed participating in during high school, she also joined the basketball team for the first two years of high school. As a senior Marcela focused on being more involved in the robotics team and helped carry them to the semifinals during competition in Del Rio, Texas. Marcela has balanced her extracurricular activities with her education. She has maintained the A and B Honor Roll throughout her high school career. Aside from all her academic achievements she has also competed in debate under the organization National Hispanic Institute (NHI) During her high school years, she participated in many camps such as National Leadership Forum to help her understand what it takes to be a healthcare worker and the responsibilities that go with this vocation.
Sweet, kind and compassionate are just a few words that describe Marcela. "What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
Marcela is set to attend The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and will be majoring in nursing. to achieve her educational goal of becoming a nurse.
